TOPIC: Q&A WPI VS. WPC

Hey guys and gals, Ben has asked us a question:

WPC or WPI, is there any significant difference? and whats the benefit of one over the other?

Our answer:

Hey Ben! This is a great question and has probably confused most people who have ingested both products. First of all, for those who aren’t familiar with the terms, WPI stands for Whey Protein Isolate and WPC stands for Whey Protein Concentrate. Both are rich in branched-chained amino acids (BCAAs) and digest at rapid rates. However, their major difference is in their production. WPI undergoes more processing than WPC, which creates a protein powder that is about 90% protein or higher. Whey protein concentrate is typically only about 80% protein. Therefore, when buying WPI you will recieve more protein and pay less compared to WPC.

However, WPC contains a higher percentage of milk fat which includes oligosaccharides, lactoferrin, immunoglobulins, anabolic growth factors and other active ingredients that form minerals and antioxidants. With this in mind, these extra active ingredients work to boost immunity and reduce toxins. They come at a price, with WPC being higher in calories because of it, compared to WPI. In terms of absorption, some manufacturers hydrolyse WPC to provide more peptides and free amino acids in the end product. Some WPI also contain hydrolysates which are predigested, partially hydrolysed proteins. Therefore, when ingested and digested, absorption will occur quicker.

The end choice is up to you dependant on your personal needs. Thanks for asking!
